Quick answer
How do I transfer a domain to a registrar that accepts crypto?
To transfer a domain to BuyDomainsCrypto and pay with crypto, unlock it at your current registrar, get its auth (EPP) code, and start the transfer with a balance topped up in BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC. A .com transfer costs $11.49 and adds one year. No KYC: only a verified email. Most gTLD transfers complete in 5 to 7 days.
Domain transfers: key facts

|---|---|
| What you need | The domain unlocked and its auth (EPP) code from the current registrar |
| 60-day rule | No transfer within 60 days of a registration or a previous transfer (ICANN Transfer Policy, gTLDs) |
| Typical duration | 5 to 7 days for gTLDs such as .com, .net and .org |
| ccTLDs (.io, .co…) | The registry's own rules, not the ICANN Transfer Policy |
| Payment | From your crypto balance: BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, minimum top-up $25 |
| Transfer out | Transfer code free, requested from the client area |
| KYC | None — only a verified email, kept private |
Can my domain be transferred now?
Yes, if four conditions are met. Check them at your current registrar before you start:
- 60 days have passed since the domain was registered or last transferred. The ICANN Transfer Policy blocks gTLD transfers inside that window.
- The domain is active. An expired domain, or one in its redemption period, must be renewed or restored at the current registrar first.
- The transfer lock is off. Registrars call it transfer lock, registrar lock or clientTransferProhibited.
- You receive email at the registrant address, in case an approval message is sent.
Also check that we sell the extension: the list of extensions shows all 55 of them, with their transfer price.
How to transfer a domain in, step by step
Unlock the domain
At your current registrar, turn off the transfer lock. If WHOIS privacy hides your contact email, check that you still receive the registrar's messages.
Get the auth (EPP) code
Ask the current registrar for the transfer code, also called auth code or EPP code. Keep it private: it works like a password for the domain.
Top up your balance
Top up in BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, at least $25. A .com transfer costs $11.49, paid from the balance.
Start the transfer
Send a transfer request from your BuyDomainsCrypto account with the domain name and its auth code. Our team applies it and gives you a reference number.
Approve it if asked
Depending on the registrars involved, an email may ask you to confirm or cancel the transfer. Approve it to avoid waiting.
Wait for completion
gTLD transfers usually finish in 5 to 7 days, sooner if the old registrar releases the domain early. One year is added to the expiry date.
How do I keep my website and email working during a transfer?
Keep the same DNS until the transfer is complete. A transfer changes the registrar, not your DNS records, unless the old registrar hosts your DNS.
- DNS hosted by the old registrar? Copy every record first: A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT and CAA. After the transfer, recreate them on our DNS or point the domain to other nameservers.
- Using your own nameservers (a DNS provider, your host or a CDN)? Nothing changes: the nameservers move with the domain.
- DNSSEC switched on? Turn it off at the old DNS host before you change nameservers, or the domain can stop resolving.
- Email on the domain? Copy the MX and TXT records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) exactly, or mail can bounce.
Our DNS: free DNS hosting with A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT and CAA records, or your own nameservers (2 to 13). DNS changes are applied by our team, each with a reference number.
How much does a domain transfer cost?
The transfer price of the extension, which buys one more year on gTLDs. The year is added to the current expiry date, so the time you already paid for is kept.
At BuyDomainsCrypto, a .com transfer costs $11.49, a .net $12.19 and a .org $11.49, each with one year added. The table below shows the main extensions; the pricing page has the transfer column for all of them.
.ai is the exception: its registry sets a 2-year minimum, and most registrars bill a .ai transfer for two years. See why .ai needs two years. Start any transfer a few weeks before the expiry date, so a late renewal at the old registrar does not overlap with it.
Transfer prices of popular extensions

| .ai | $81.99 | $81.99 | $81.99 | Free | min. 2 years |
How do ccTLD transfers work (.io, .co, .me)?
Each country-code registry sets its own transfer rules; the ICANN Transfer Policy covers gTLDs only. The 60-day rule, the added year and the approval steps can differ.
- .io, .co, .me and most other ccTLDs we sell use an auth code, as gTLDs do.
- .gg is registered one year at a time.
Before a ccTLD transfer, write to [email protected] with the domain name, not the code. We confirm the steps and the price for that extension. We do not accept transfers of extensions we do not sell, such as .uk, .de, .us or .eu: their registries require more than an email.
How do I transfer a domain out of BuyDomainsCrypto?
Turn off the transfer lock and request the transfer code in My domains. The code is free, requested from the client area.
- Open the domain in My domains and switch the transfer lock off.
- Request the transfer (auth/EPP) code. Our team applies each change and gives you a reference number.
- Give the code to your new registrar and start the transfer there.
The 60-day rule also applies after a registration or a transfer to us. We never ask for your password, your account number or your domain transfer (EPP) codes by email or chat.
Domain transfers: FAQ
How long does a domain transfer take?
Most gTLD transfers, for .com, .net, .org and the new gTLDs, finish in 5 to 7 days. The old registrar has five days to release or refuse the transfer; without an answer, it goes through. It can be faster if the old registrar releases the domain early. ccTLD transfers follow their own registry's timing.
Does a transfer add a year to my domain?
On gTLDs, yes: a transfer adds one year to the current expiry date, and the transfer price pays for that year. A .com transfer to BuyDomainsCrypto costs $11.49. ccTLDs follow their own rules, and .ai has a 2-year minimum at most registrars. The pricing page shows the transfer price of every extension.
Why can't I transfer my domain right now?
There are four usual reasons. The domain was registered or transferred less than 60 days ago. The transfer lock is still on. The auth code is wrong or expired. Or the domain is expired or in redemption. A recent change of registrant can also trigger a 60-day lock at some registrars. Ask the current registrar which status blocks the transfer.
Will my website go down during the transfer?
Not if the DNS stays the same. The nameservers move with the domain, so a site on your own or third-party DNS keeps working. If the old registrar hosts your DNS, copy every record before you start and recreate it after the transfer, or point the domain to other nameservers first.
Can I pay for a domain transfer with USDT?
Yes. Top up your balance with USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20), or with BTC, USDC, ETH, SOL or LTC, then pay the transfer from it. The minimum top-up is $25. Unused balance stays on your account and never expires, and it pays for new domains, renewals and transfers, but it is not refundable.
Do I need an ID to transfer a domain in?
No. No ID, no KYC — only a verified email, kept private. ICANN rules require the registrant email to be verified after a transfer, as after a registration. Extensions whose registry requires more than an email, such as .us, .ca or .eu, are not sold, so they cannot be transferred in.
What happens if the transfer fails?
If the old registrar refuses, or the code is wrong, the transfer does not complete and the domain stays where it was. Nothing changes for your website. Write to [email protected] with your reference number: we tell you the reason and the next step, such as a new auth code or removing a lock.
How do I move a domain away from BuyDomainsCrypto?
Switch off the transfer lock in My domains and request the transfer code: free, requested from the client area. Then start the transfer at the new registrar with that code. The 60-day rule applies after a registration or a transfer. We never ask for your transfer code by email or chat.
